Yota Krili was born in Kerastari of Arcadia, Greece, and migrated to Australia in 1959. She completed her high school study at East Sydney Evening College and graduated from the University of Sydney with an Arts degree and a diploma in Education. She taught ESL, Modern Greek and English in secondary schools and lectured part-time in Education at the University of Sydney. She has been a tireless activist on political and educational issues and edited a series of educational books for students of Modern Greek. As a literary writer, she writes poetry bilingually and has been published in various anthologies, journals and newspapers. Published works include: Triptych: Poems (Owl Publishing, Melbourne 2003); the translation into Greek, the novel Women of the Sun (University Studio Press, Thessaloniki 2008); writing the novels Katavoles (2013), Kyparissomilo (2014) and Kyklamino (2016) - the trilogy “Pathways to Freedom” (Pteroti House, Sydney). In 2016, Yota was honoured to receive the Hypatia Award of the Australian Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA). The Hypatia Award recognises outstanding cultural, educational and literary contributions to the Greek Community. Η Παναγιώτα Σπ. Κριλή (γνωστή ως Γιώτα Κριλή) γεννήθηκε στο Κεραστάρι Αρκαδίας και μετανάστευσε στην Αυστραλία το 1959. Τέλειωσε νυχτερινό κολλέγιο και αποφοίτησε από το Πανεπιστήμιο του Σύδνεϋ με πτυχίο φιλολογίας και δίπλωμα παιδαγωγικής. Δίδαξε Ελληνικά και Αγγλικά σε γυμνάσια και Παιδαγωγική στο Πανεπιστήμιο του Σύδνεϋ. Υπήρξε ακούραστη ακτιβίστρια σε θέματα πολιτικής και παιδαγωγικής και εξέδωσε τη γνωστή πρωτοποριακή σειρά εκπαιδευτικών βιβλίων Κοντά στη Γλώσσα. Η ποίησή της που γράφει σε δίγλωσση μορφή έχει δημοσιευτεί σε ανθολογίες, περιοδικά και εφημερίδες. Εκδόσεις: Τρίπτυχο, ποιητική συλλογή (Owl Publishing, Melbourne 2003), Οι γυναίκες του ήλιου, μετάφραση (University Studio Press, Θεσσαλονίκη 2008) και τα μυθιστορήματα Καταβολές (2013), Κυπαρισσόμηλο (2014) και Κυκλάμινο (2016) της τριλογίας «Μονοπάτια της Ελευθερίας» (Pteroti House, Sydney).Το 2016 η Γιώτα τιμήθηκε με το Βραβείο Υπατίας από την Αυστραλιανή Ελληνική Εκπαιδευτική Προοδευτική Οργάνωση (ΑΧΕΠΑ) ΝΝΟ. Το Βραβείο Υπατίας αναγνωρίζει διακεκριμένα άτομα για τη συνεισφορά τους στον πολιτισμό, την παιδεία και τη λογοτεχνία στην Ελληνική Παροικία. |
